Nice phone - Nice vendor, but...

I'll start by saying this is my first ever smart phone. I tried to do a lot of research before jumping into a no-contract, unlocked GSM phone and picking a service. I decided on Straight Talk from Walmart. That lead me Amazon. I spent at least two weeks reading descriptions on phones. CPUs, RAM, ROM, GSM freqs, Edge, HSUPA, HSDPA - trying to learn about everything I would need in a phone. All the phones at Walmart were Android 2.2 and I knew that I wanted 4.0 or 4.1.I specifically chose this phone for it's CPU speed, RAM/ROM and GSM support. Unfortunately when I received the phone, it wasn't the phone described. I received a phone with 1Ghz CPU, 512 RAM and as far as I could tell 512ROM. However, Antutu benchmark also found a 2GB internal SD card which was confusing. Being my first unlocked phone, I could be reading these numbers all wrong. The CPU is MTK6577 running at 1Ghz only.Although I felt that I didn't get what I purchased, I decided to give the phone a try. I had not purchased the SIM chip yet. I wanted to try other features first. Loaded Word with Friends and played with my sister through wifi. I also downloaded Antutu benchmark and the phone got a 6457 mark. Not sure how that ranks, but so far I haven't been disappointed with performance. I went through the phones settings to familiarize myself. After 4 days, I decided to keep the phone so I ordered the Straight Talk SIM. It arrived in a few days. Had no problem setting up the APN manually as instructed by Straight Talk.At home, I only get Edge speed or lower, but when I traveled to visit my nephew, i did get full HSDPA which is close to 7Mbps. The problem started when making a call. The display would start flashing on and off. Was frustrating because I needed to 'press one' to continue. ProKat DVD tried to be helpful. Sent me a file that I couldn't install in the phone. After many emails, we decided it best to return the phone.They sent a replacement and unfortunately, started doing the same thing. At this point, I decided it must be a setting with Straight Talk. I went to Google to see if I could find anything. Apparently, even Droid Razrs and other expensive Android phones had the same issue. It's the proximity detector! It is found in Settings/Display. Just needed to be calibrated and the phone now works as expected.As for the rating, it's mixed feelings. Part of me wanted to lower it and part of me wanted to give 5 stars. ProKat DVD was VERY patient with me after 30 or more emails. They were very helpful and even willing to refund. However, the Amazon description of the phone wasn't accurate and I felt that I didn't get what I ordered.With all that said, I am happy with the phone. It works great with Straight Talk. Call quality is good. Gaming is good.

Okay phone, Great Customer service

I bought this phone as a lesser priced galaxy type phone. It worked well unitl it stopped working. I am not sure why, but maybe I had to manny apps on the phone. Whatever the reason I contaced the seller (Prokat DVD), and they were very helpfull in trying to get it fixed. I tried for about a week to fix it myself using the directions that were given to me, but since I am a techno newbie I had to send the phone back. Prokat DVD fixed it and returned it to me. It is now working well enough. It is still glitchy, but that may be due to the product design(you get what you pay for). The only flaw in the whole process is that the USB was not sent back with the phone, but I am assured that it will be in the mail back to me ASAP.
